South Tyrol’s far North (Albolina Film/Servus TV, 2021/22)
The rugged mountain region surrounding the Tauferer Arntal in South Tyrol’s far north is a hidden gem – not only for the first ascents of star climber Simon Gietl and his brother Manuel, for the excursions of extreme alpinist and ice climber Christoph Hainz, and as altitude training ground for biathlete Dorothea Wierer.
Will Simon and Manuel Gietl succeed in their first ascent of the spectacular „Orca“ route, or will Manuel be haunted again by his trauma? What challenges has biathlete Dorothea Wierer to face during her summer training? To answer these questions we travel to the Tauferer Ahrntal, a wild, pristine mountain region in South Tyrol’s farthest north. Here, ice and snow reveal prehistoric finds, but also dictate the difficult conditions for framing and transhumance.
In winter South Tyrol’s far north is the playground for extreme alpinist Christoph Hainz, expressing his skills on ephemeral frozen waterfalls and icicles.
