{"id":666,"date":"2018-11-16T17:31:53","date_gmt":"2018-11-16T17:31:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/jochenhemmleb.com\/web\/?page_id=666"},"modified":"2024-06-10T15:49:32","modified_gmt":"2024-06-10T15:49:32","slug":"curriculum","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/jochenhemmleb.com\/web\/en\/curriculum\/","title":{"rendered":"Curriculum"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>born August 13, 1971, in Bad Homburg (Germany); currently living in Lana (Italy) with his family.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Avid trekker and mountaineer since age 10, many classic hikes and climbs in well-known (Mont Blanc, Monte Rosa etc.) and lesser-knowm corners of the Alps<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Since 1988<\/strong> compiling the <strong>\u201eEverest Archives\u201c<\/strong> about the mountaineering history of Everest\u2018s Tibetan side and the mystery of Mallory &amp; Irvine; probably among the largest private collections about this topic<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After finishing high school (1991) and civilian service, study of geology at Johann-Wollfgang-Goethe University, Frankfurt (Germany). <strong>Diploma in geology<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>March-June 1996<\/strong> travels in East Africa (Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, Uganda). Self-organized climbs of Mount Kenya (Nelion, 5188 m, and Point Lenana, 4985 m) and Ruwenzori (Margherita, 5109 m, solo). Six weeks work as assisting scientist at University of Zambia, Lusaka.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>September 1996-June 1997<\/strong> fieldwork and research for Diploma thesis in geology (Structural geology of the Remarkables, Western Otago, New Zealand) and work as \u201evisiting scientist\u201c at the Institute of Geological &amp; Nuclear Sciences, Dunedin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1999<\/strong> Co-initiator and member of the <strong>\u201eMallory &amp; Irvine Research Expedition\u201c<\/strong> to Mount Everest, which <strong>discovered the remains of British Himalayan pioneer George Mallory<\/strong>, lost in 1924. Three months work as writer in Seattle, USA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2001 <\/strong>&nbsp;Co-initiator and member of the second <strong>\u201eMallory &amp; Irvine Research Expedition\u201c<\/strong> to Mount Everest (aka <strong>\u201eDetectives on Everest\u201c<\/strong>), discovery of further traces from the 1924 attempt as well as the earlier British and Chinese expeditions 1922-1975. Two months work as writer in Seattle, USA.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2004<\/strong> \u201eNanga Parbat History Research Project\u201c in connection with German mountaineering filmmaker <strong>Gerhard Baur<\/strong> and the <strong>American Foundation for International Mountaineering and Research (AFFIMER)<\/strong>. Visits of all three sides of the Nanga Parbat massif (Diamir, Raikot, and Rupal), search for traces of early attempts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>2005 move to South Tyrol (Italy).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2006<\/strong>&nbsp; Co-initiator and member of the <strong>Austrian-German Broad Peak\/Chogolisa Expedition<\/strong> to the Karakoram (Pakistan) on the trails of Austrian climbing legend <strong>Hermann Buhl<\/strong>. Excursions along the Godwin-Austen-Glacier to below Skyang La (Pakistan-China border) and the Abruzzi Glacier to below Conway Saddle (border to Kashmere).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2007-2009<\/strong> work as writer (books Broad Peak-Traum und Alptraum, Tatort Mount Everest-Der Fall Mallory, and Nanga Parbat-Das Drama 1970 und die Kontroverse).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2010<\/strong>&nbsp; Co-initiator and co-leader of the <strong>Austrian-German \u201eIrvine Search Expedition\u201c<\/strong> to Mount Everest. Consultant and protagonist for the <strong>documentary film \u201eErster auf dem Everest\u201c<\/strong> (first screened December 30, 2010, on Austrian Television ORF2); five days of filmwork on the North Col (7070 m). After the expedition work as consultant, scriptwriter and production assistant (interviews and research) for the Austrian production companies <strong>preTV<\/strong> and <strong>Planetwatch\/Gerald Salmina<\/strong> (director of the award-winning documentary \u201eMount St. Elias\u201c).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2011<\/strong> Co-initiator and member of the <strong>Austrian-German film expedition \u201eThe Sherpas\u2018 Quest\u201c<\/strong> to Nepal and Tibet. 21 days traverse of the Solu Khumbu region, including climbs of Kala Pattar (5615 m) and Island Peak (6188 m) followed by six weeks expedition to the north side of Everest. Consultant and protagonist for the documentary <strong>\u201eThe Sherpas\u2018 Quest\u201c<\/strong> about the life and history of the sherpas (first screened February 15, 2012, on Austrian Servus TV); 30 days stay at altitudes above 6400 m, including 7 days on the North Col (7070 m). After the expedition work as as consultant, scriptwriter and production assistant (interviews and research) for the Austrian production companies <strong>preTV<\/strong> and <strong>Planetwatch\/Gerald Salmina<\/strong> (director of the award-winning documentary \u201eMount St. Elias\u201c). Since summer work on a six-part TV series about the great North Faces of the Alps (starring professional climbers Robert Jasper, Roger Schaeli, Robert Steiner, Ueli Steck, Alexander Huber, Hansj\u00f6rg Auer, Steve House and others).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2012<\/strong> finalizing work on the <strong>six-part TV series about the great North Faces of the Alps<\/strong>, work as directing and editing assistant, scriptwriter and consultant for the parts \u201eDas letzte Wort hat der Berg \u2013 Matterhorn-Nordwand\u201c and \u201eDrei Zinnen \u2013 Grenzen der Felskletterei\u201c. Work as writer (book Austria 8000 \u2013 \u00d6sterreichische Alpinisten auf den h\u00f6chsten Gipfeln der Welt, published January 2013).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In November award <strong>\u201eKamera Alpin in Gold\u201c<\/strong> for best alpine documentary \u201eDer zerfallene Berg \u2013 Petit-Dru-Nordwand\u201c, together with Gerald Salmina (producer), Tom Dauer (director), and G\u00fcnther G\u00f6berl (camera).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2013-2015<\/strong> work as writer, translator and editor (books <em>Herausforderung 8000er<\/em>, a history of the 8000-metre peaks in the first decade of the 21st century \u2013 published December 2013; <em>Courage, die wahre Geschichte des Bergsteigers Hermann Hoerlin und einer lebensgef\u00e4hrlichen Liebe<\/em> \u2013 published March 2014; <em>Gerfried G\u00f6schl-Spuren f\u00fcr die Ewigkeit<\/em>, published October 2014, und <em>Extreme Eiger<\/em>, with Peter &amp; Leni Gillman \u2013 published summer 2015).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Spring-summer 2013<\/strong> work as scriptwriting and editing assistant and consultant for <strong>\u201ePeter Ressmann \u2013 Eine Widmung\u201c<\/strong> (Servus TV, June 2013)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Spring-summer 2015<\/strong> work as scriptwriting and editing assistant and consultant for <strong>\u201eMatterhorn \u2013 Vom Mythos zur Marke\u201c<\/strong> (Servus TV, July 2015) for the 150th anniversary of the first ascent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2016<\/strong> work as translator (books <em>Eiger Extrem-Das Rennen um die Nordwand-Direttissima<\/em> \u2013 published March 2016, und <em>Besser Tiger als Schaf-Alex MacIntyre und die Geburt des Alpinstils im Himalaya<\/em> \u2013 published July 2016).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Summer-autumn work as scriptwriter and director for <strong>\u201eDer Ortler \u2013 S\u00fcdtirols K\u00f6nig der Berge\u201c<\/strong> (Servus TV, November 2016), produced by Planetwatch\/Gerald Salmina.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>November chief of international jury, Bansko Film Fest \u2013 International Mountain Film Festival (Bulgaria).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>2017-2018<\/strong> work as researcher, location scout and prop master for the <strong>movie \u201eManaslu \u2013 Berg der Seelen.
